In Kabbalah, these seven heavens are referred to as steps or levels of spiritual understanding that one can reach to approach the Divine.
These concepts are also found in the Tanakh, which is the Hebrew term for the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Although the Tanakh does not explicitly detail the structure of the seven heavens and their meanings, references to similar concepts can be found which Kabbalah later develops and expands upon.
Detailed information about the seven heavens and the levels of Divine consciousness can be found in classical Kabbalistic texts such as the Zohar, the Book of Splendor, and other writings of Kabbalistic masters throughout history. These texts are a primary source for those wishing to study and gain a deeper understanding of the metaphysical structure of reality from the Kabbalistic perspective.
Exploring the teachings of Kabbalah and the Torah, the seven heavens become steps towards a deeper understanding of the Divine. These are the levels of Divine consciousness we can ascend to, each revealing a unique facet of G-d's knowledge and a closer union with Him:
Vilón ("Curtain"): Here we experience G-d's continuous recreation of all reality. It is the veil that separates us from the Divine essence, reminding us that there are mysteries beyond our understanding.
Rakíä ("Firmament"): At this level, we perceive the Hebrew letters as channels of G-d's creative energy. Each letter is a brick in the construction of reality, revealing the very essence of creation.
Shejakím ("Millstones"): Here is where G-d names us and gives us a mission on Earth. We experience G-d's personal call and our unique task in the world.
Zevúl ("Abode"): This level allows us to experience Jerusalem and the Holy Temple in their spiritual sphere. They are ready to manifest in the physical sphere, reminding us of our connection to the sacred and our potential for spiritual elevation.
Maön ("Dwelling"): On this step, we experience the Divine forces operating in nature. It allows us to emulate G-d in our daily lives, acting as agents of His will in the material world.
Majón ("Resting Place"): Here we find the Ineffable Name of G-d, Havaiá, reflected in every aspect of reality. We experience the omnipotence and omnipresence of G-d, recognizing His presence in everything around us.
Äravót ("Heavens"): This is the pinnacle, where we achieve true positive nullification (bitúl) in the experience of G-d alone. We transform into a Merkavá, a Divine vehicle, to fulfill His desire in creation. It is the state of ultimate union with the Divine.
