What Is Karma According to Kabbalah? A Mystical Perspective on Tikun
The term "karma" is widely recognized in Eastern traditions as the law of cause and effect, but what does Kabbalah have to say about it? While it doesn’t use the word "karma," this Jewish mystical wisdom offers a profound perspective through the concept of Tikun, meaning "correction" or "repair." In Kabbalah, every soul enters the world with a unique mission: to rectify actions from past lives and achieve spiritual elevation.
According to the Zohar, a foundational Kabbalistic text, everything we do—our thoughts, words, and actions—weaves a web within the universe. This cosmic network responds to our deeds, not as punishment or reward, but as opportunities to balance the soul. For instance, if someone causes harm, that negative energy returns as lessons the soul must learn for its Tikun. Unlike the Hindu concept of karma, which can feel like an impersonal cycle, Kabbalistic Tikun is infused with divine mercy and shaped by free will.
